30-hour Hooded Shelf Clock by Nathaniel Hedges of Colchester c.1760.
The arched brass 7" dial with signed silvered boss to the arch centre, flanked by finely chased roccoco spandrels. Good quality matting to the dial centre, with single blued steel hand.
The silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals, diamond 1/2 hour markers & 1/4 hour inner divisions. Cornered by roccoco spandrels. The 30 hour brass posted movement striking the hours on a bell & having original weight and pendulum. The ebonised case being a later addition but to an original design.
Hooded shelf clocks are much rarer than traditional longcase clocks and ones with arched dials are rarer still.
